The Needs and Priorities document for 2017 calls for US114$ to help an estimated 18 million people across DPRK who continue to suffer from food insecurity and undernutrition, as well as a lack of access to basic services.
As of 1 January 2017 the new UN Strategic Framework comes into effect. The UNSF sets out the agreed priorities for the UN's country-level work in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) over the five year period 2017-2021. It replaces the previous framework, which covered the period 2011-2016.
14 September 2016 (Pyongyang): A total of 138 people have been confirmed killed and 400 people remain missing after remnants of Typhoon Lionrock caused heavy rains and flooding in the northeast of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) two weeks ago.
Flooding, triggered by heavy rains as a result of Typhoon Lionrock, in north-eastern DPRK has displaced tens of thousands of people and destroyed homes, buildings and other critical infrastructure. (11 September update)
